Our tallow is sourced locally from a small farm in Greenback, TN. The cows are grass fed and finished with no antibiotics or hormones. We use organic ingredients, local raw honey, and organic essential oils from Plant Therapy.

Which tallow product is best for me?

“Pure Butter” is a great choice for young babies or those with very sensitive skin who cannot tolerate essential oils. The other blends contain honey which isn’t suitable for children under the age of one, but this blend is simply whipped tallow and organic jojoba oil—that’s it! Great as a daily face/body moisturizer, treating diaper rash, spit up rash, soothing and treating burns/sunburns, bug bites, barrier cream, treating minor wounds and any mild to moderate skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis for even the newest babies. This also makes a great carrier oil for your own essential oils.

“The Butter” is scented with organic lavender essential oil and contains honey. It’s a popular choice and for anyone over the age of 1, great as a daily face/body moisturizer, soothing/treating burns and sunburns, treating scars, use as a barrier cream, and any mild to moderate skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis. If you’re wanting to try tallow and acne is your concern this whipped blend is a great choice.

The “Healing Butter” is tallow whipped with a natural healing herb called calendula, local honey, as well as organic lavender and tea tree essential oils. It’s a great choice for skin conditions and cases of eczema/psoriasis, treating any wounds or scars, burns/sunburns, and bug bites. It’s similar to our other blends but with added ingredients for more healing benefits. Do not place on any open wounds. Once wound is closed, the “Healing Butter” is an excellent, all natural remedy that speeds up the healing process and prevents infection for mild wounds and burns. We love this one as a first aid ointment in our house!

“Healing Butter” contains calendula and tea tree. Because of this, this blend is not recommend for those who are under two (tea tree) or pregnant (calendula). Do not use on areas where risk of ingesting such as near mouth/hands or use on sensitive areas. Keep out of reach from children. If 0-1 years old check out our "Pure Butter”. If 1-2 years old, check out our "Lavender Butter".

The “Youth Butter” is a luxurious whipped anti-aging butter with organic jojoba oil, local raw honey, and a .5% dilution of organic frankincense, geranium, and lavender essential oils. This whipped blend may help with treating fine lines/wrinkles, brightness, pigmentation, and skin elasticity. Great as a daily, anti-aging moisturizer for face and body. The scent profile is Frankincense and geranium forward and can be described as bright, refreshing, floral, and green.

How do I use tallow?

One of the greatest benefits of tallow is all the ways tallow can be used. For a list of ways, visit the “About” page and click “What’s tallow, Benefits, and Tips”. Popular ways tallow is used include as a daily face/body moisturizer, healing cracked and dry skin, healing wounds/scars/burns, treating sunburns, and healing rashes or cases of eczema/psoriasis, and treating diaper rash.

A little bit goes a long way so start out with a pea sized and use more if needed. Rub between your hands for 5 seconds or so (you will feel it begin to melt) and rub onto the desired area. You should feel hydrated, not greasy. If you feel greasy, you are using too much. It’s recommended to use twice a day for the best results.

What product do you recommend for Mama + new baby?

“Pure Butter” is a great choice for young babies and new mama. It’s also a great gift option for a new mama expecting a little one soon because both mom and baby can use it in a variety of ways from treating diaper rash, cradle cap, belly butter, nipple balm, lip balm, face cream, body moisturizer, and more. The other blends contain honey which isn’t suitable for children under the age of one.

Does it smell?

Contrary to what you might think, you would be surprised by its light, earthy scent and rich, luxurious texture. Most people are pleasantly surprised and do not mind tallow’s light, natural scent. The Pure Butter is one of our best sellers!

WILL IT CLOG PORES?

Tallow is noncomedogenic and closely mimics our own skin’s natural sebum and lipid production without clogging pores while also helping to balance the skin. Each case of acne is unique and can depend from person to person but tallow has many great properties to help address acne like soothing inflammation, antimicrobial, repairing skin’s barrier, and balancing oil production. If you’re wanting to try tallow and acne is your concern “The Butter” (lavender) or “Youth Butter” would be what I would suggest. I also suggest trying a patch test area first to see how your acne may react. If you find tallow doesn’t work for your case of acne, the good news is tallow can be used in so many other ways and your jar won’t go to waste. It’s definitely worth trying!

How do I Care for my tallow?, Does it need to be REFRIGERATED?, Does it expire?

Our products contain no preservatives and are shelf stable six months to a year if cared for properly. Tallow products have a low melting point. Keep in a cool location away from heat and direct light as well as away from any moisture to ensure the longest shelf life of your tallow. Tallow is naturally self stable so no need to refrigerate!
